My village project

With our art projet we cooperate with:
MY Village Project

This project started four years ago in Zhor – Vaddo, Anjuna – Goa.  As the master mind of Mr. Mark Mendes.  It all started as a pilot project at St. Michael’s Convent High School, Vagator – Anjuna.  Under the leadership of the principal Sr. Libia Fernandes. MVP has successfully imparted knowledge of Goan History through renowned historians like Vasco Phino and Sanjeev Sardesai and traditional Terracotta craft and Bamboo craft through professionals Verodina and JadhavPottery, Bamboo craft, the history of Anjuna and Goa was presented to the students of Std VIII.  A total of 32 children participated in these classes.
In the just concluded history / craft classes MVP has created awareness in the mind of the children regarding the history of our village and traditional terracotta and bamboo craft items that are fast disappearing and expressed the fear that the future generations will never get o see all these unique items, hence we need to identify children who will pick up interest and cultivate it as a hobby or a full time profession.

In addition to the history and craft classes, the following activities have been conducted by MVP since 2012.
1) Basket weaving.
2) Gardening.
3) Terracotta.
4) Traditional Plate making.
5) MVP participated in the “Glow On” programme, where 08 schools participated in the MVP competition.
6) St. Michael’s School and Sacred Heart of Jesus High School children participated in swimming classes and completed the course.
7) Wall Painting Competition. -  all Anjuna vaddo level
8) Best Kopel Competition. (headgear)
9) Social Enhancement for the Young.
10) Vegetable Growing Competition.
11) Paddy Growing Competition.
12) Kitchen Garden presentation.
13) Organic Learn To Grow Food Training.

Now MVP is marching a step forward and is focusing on 04 verticals for the betterment of Anjuna village people.  The four verticals are mainly:-
1) Environment. (specifically garbage)
2) Farming. ( famers market)
3) People.
4) History & Craft.
MVP has come across organization, individuals that have already put the hands to deal with garbage for Anjuna village.  MVP has appreciated their efforts and extended its support.
The vegetable growing competition, paddy growing competition, kitchen garden presentation and now organic- Learn To Grow Food training is mainly undertaken keeping the farmers market in mind, where villagers in time to come can bring and sell their vegetables at a common place thus generating revenue for themselves, keeping our village green.
There are a number of people who have served and bought glory to Anjuna village in their young age and need to be remembered today eg Bonaventure, Chef Caridade, Gajanan, Lulu, Shanu etc.  At present MVP is working on compiling a book with a few of Chef Caridade’s recipe and also translating one of Bonaventure’s book that will help the new generation to understand the richness of a true Goan wedding celebration.  MVP is also involved in guiding people to keep up to the tradition and produce local products like Local rice, vinegar, Mango water pickle, dry mango, dry kokum, tamarind,  local homemade masala, coconut oil, coconut jaggery, hard brooms, bamboo craft items for domestic use. etc
MVP team is also working towards preserving the History and Craft culture of our village. As it also totally believes that this project is of the people, for the people and by the people.

Together we can take MY Village Anjuna to great heights.
